Trillium Pushes the Limits of Global Ocean Modelling

The group of Prof. Peltier of the University of Toronto, together and their collaborators, is using the Trillium supercomputer to develop a next-generation Massachusetts Institute of Technology general circulation model (MITgcm) global ocean simulation. This project will culminate in a run of the MITgcm with horizontal grid spacing of 1/96° (~1 km). It will be the highest-resolution realistic ocean model produced to date.

On January 14, 2026, Ph.D. Candidate Kayhan Momemi presented the results of their early experiences with Trillium in a Compute Ontario Colloquium.
