On November 28, 2025, the Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Evan Solomon announced a $42.5M million grant for a new AI compute system has been awarded to the University of Toronto, to be hosted and operated by SciNet.
This investment is funded by the Digital Research Alliance of Canada as part of Canada’s Sovereign AI Compute Strategy.
The system will be a compute cluster designed for AI workloads. It is expected to be delivered and installed in the first half of 2026. More details to come in the new year.
